I’m now 8 weeks along and am about 2 weeks in on this morning sickness business. So far my routine consists of taking nausea medicine as soon as I wake up, drinking as much water as I can stand (which isn’t very much because I keep feeling sick), an hour later eating a piece of toast and drinking more water. I feel pretty crummy and sick most of the morning.
I generally get in a great nap…sometimes long, sometimes short…around 12 or 1 and wake up feeling like a human being again. About 3pm is when the morning sickness tends to wear off.
I’m grateful that I feel okay most afternoons and evenings, but I feel guilty that I cannot follow keto right now. I find myself kind of confused when making food choices because I want to follow keto and my brain is trained to opt for high fat foods. But I have to be vary careful right now because I’m increasing my carbs and consuming non-keto-friendly foods like grains, legumes and fruit (that aren’t always berries). Combining the higher carbs and the higher fats can be very dangerous and cause liver disease.
I’m praying this doesn’t last much longer. My mom thinks it may last until I’m 11 or 12 weeks along. Some women I met online say they’re morning sickness lasted much, much longer.
The good news is that the baby is growing perfectly at a good rate and has a strong heartbeat. More good news…as soon as this morning sickness ends I can jump right back into keto. That is exactly my plan.
If you’re pregnant and struggling to keep keto due to morning sickness and aversions, just do what you have to do for now and get back to it when you’re able. That’s my plan. Until then, I’m trying my best to choose foods that have a low-glycemic response, switching out items when I can (like Zevia ginger ale made with stevia instead of regular ginger ale made with sugar), and I’m also working on accepting this and not feeling guilty.
Have a wonderful day and feel free to share your experience! We can all help one another with our stories of wins and loses.
PS-I’m going on vacation in about 2 weeks, so that should be interesting. Cancun pregnant…hmm. Well, I hope there’s sun and beach massages, cuz that’s going to be my morning plan while dealing with this morning sickness. LOL I’ll keep you posted.
